Brooklyn has wanted to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints ever since she was little. During High School she had opportunities to teach and help other's learn about the Gospel, which brought the missionaries into our home quite often. I think this increased her desire as she felt the Spirit during teaching moments.
We've supported her decision in every way and were thrilled at the thought! She has always been a hard worker and very responsible. Even though she knew we would pay for it, she decided to save all the money for her mission, herself. ($10,000--so much for an 18 year old!)
Brooklyn filled out her papers in one night, and completed all the other requirements within the next couple of weeks. She turned her papers in exactly 120 days (the earliest she could) before her 19th birthday. Ten days after she submitted her papers, we received the exciting white envelope in the mail.
Family and friends gathered that evening as she opened her call:
Minnesota Minneapolis Mission was a shock to all of us! Except for her niece, Lynnli. She guessed Minnesota! (She liked how it sounded like "soda" in the name!) Brooklyn had stated that she would go anywhere the Lord wanted her to go, but she really hoped it would be somewhere warm. Minnesota is not warm! Within a couple of days, she got used to the idea and had confirmation that Minnesota was where she was suppose to be serving.
